VAKUTEC® - splitter silencers KSD
For volume flows up to 68.000 m³/h
General information:
VAKUTEC® splitter silencers of types KSD15 to KSD80 are primarily used when noise emissions have to be reduced in accordance with guidelines such as „TA-Lärm“.
The following describes splitter silencers in sizes up to DN1.250 for volume flows up to 68.800m³/h. VAKUTEC® splitter attenuators of types KSD15 to KSD80 for larger volume flows and designs adapted to the building must be designed separately.

Designation:
The splitter silencers are given the abbreviation KSD for splitter silencer as a general designation and the insertion loss (15, 22, 29, 36, 40, 44, 51, 55, 58, 62, 65, 69, 72, 76 and 80 dB(A)) in relation to an octave centre frequency of 250Hz as an appendix. The standard lengths (500, 750, 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750) and their combination result in the following silencer types: KSD15, KSD22, KSD29, KSD36, KSD40, KSD44, KSD51, KSD55, KSD58, KSD62, KSD65, KSD69, KSD72, KSD76 and KSD80.
Construction:
The design of the splitter silencer or its connection to the intended pipework or duct system is adapted to the local conditions.
In the following, the silencers are shown on the inlet side with a sudden widening of the cross-section and a transition on the outlet side. The sound level is additionally reduced by the sudden cross-sectional expansion.
How it works:
Absorption silencers are used. The sound energy penetrates the absorbent material and is converted into kinetic energy. The movement of the fibrous material causes friction between the fibres. The kinetic energy is then converted into heat by the friction.
Materials:
The materials used depend on the specific physical and chemical loads that occur. Preferably, plastics such as PVC, PP, PE and PPs are used for the housing and the baffle frames. The baffles are made of sound-absorbing glass or mineral wool, which is additionally protected with sound-transparent film if necessary.
Technical data:
The VAKUTEC® splitter silencers of types KSD15 to KSD80 enable an insertion loss of 15 to 80 dB(A) at an octave centre frequency of 250 Hz. If transitions have to be taken into account, the pressure loss to be considered is approx. 50 Pa per transition and 90 Pa for the actual silencer.
